BPD Recovers Kentucky Registered Stolen Vehicle
Burlington, NC | On July 7, 2026, at approximately 12:39 p.m., Burlington Police officers responded to 2701 Longpine Road, in reference to an alert of a stolen vehicle by the department’s automated license plate reader system bearing a Kentucky registration.
Upon arrival, officers located the occupied vehicle in the front parking lot of the Holiday Inn Hotel and began an investigation. Following the investigation, two individuals were arrested. The driver was identified as Gina Upton, a 40-year-old female, and the passenger was Olivia Lunceford, a 27-year-old female; both residents of Greensboro, NC.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia. Gina Upton was charged with:
• Felony Possession of Cocaine
• Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle
• Trafficking Cocaine
Olivia Lunceford was charged with:
• Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
Both subjects were transported to the Alamance County Jail and were held without bond due to a violation of the Pretrial Integrity Act. This investigation remains ongoing. Initial bonds are set by a Magistrate and are subject to modification at any time by order of the Court.

Arrest for Indecent Liberties with a Child
Burlington, NC | On June 7, 2026, the Burlington Police Department responded to 1450 Graham Street, Burlington, N.C., to investigate an adult male arranging to meet a juvenile below the age of sixteen for sexual relations.
Based on the investigation, Waverly McFatter, Jr., a 50-year-old male, was charged with one count of Indecent Liberties with a Minor. McFatter is being held at the Alamance County Detention Facility under no bond. This is an ongoing investigation, and more charges may be forthcoming.
Initial bonds are set by a Magistrate and are subject to modification at any time by order of the Court. This media release has been reviewed and approved for distribution.

On July 9, 2026, at approximately 1:57 AM, Graham Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing at 118 Amy Drive. While en-route to the scene, officers intercepted three male victims who were attempting to flee the area to seek medical attention. Officers immediately initiated lifesaving medical interventions on all three individuals.
The victims have been identified as:
• Jonathan Josino Colon of Burlington, NC
• Jason Quiles-Nazario of Graham, NC
• Erik Quiles of Graham, NC
During the initial investigation, police identified Juan Perez–Herrera, a resident of the 118 Amy Drive home, as the primary suspect. Officers located Perez–Herrera at the residence also suffering from a stab wound.
All three victims, as well as the suspect, were transported by emergency medical services to a local trauma center. The victims remain hospitalized in serious but stable condition. Juan Perez-Herrera was treated and released into the custody of Graham Police Department detectives.
Following an investigation by Graham Police detectives, Juan Perez–Herrera has been formally charged with three (3) counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury. Perez-Herrera was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center and was held under no bond. He has a first appearance in Alamance Co. District court on 7/10/2026 at 2:00pm.

Burlington Police Arrest Shooting Suspect
Burlington, NC | On July 5, 2026, at approximately 3:04 a.m., Burlington Police officers responded to the 2000 block of Chapel Hill Road in reference to reports of a shooting. Responding officers located two women who had been shot at while they were in their vehicle, following an argument at the Reserve Bar in Burlington.
As a result of the investigation, officers identified Charity Denise Russell, a 32-year-old female,as the offender who was arrested without incident. Russell was charged with the following:
• Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
• Three (3) counts of Felony Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Property
• Misdemeanor Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits
• Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property,
• Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
Russell is currently at the Alamance County Jail, where she received no bond due to the violent nature of the charges. There is no ongoing threat to the public.

Motor Vehicle Crash Fatality – Investigation Update with Charges (06-30-2026)
Burlington, NC | As a result of the crash investigation, Jeron Ricole Robertson, 34-year-old male of Durham, NC, has been charged with:
• Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle
• Failure to Reduce Speed
• Failing to Secure Passenger Under 16
• Possession of Schedule VI (Marijuana)
On the night of June 20, 2026, Robertson struck two pedestrians who were crossing the 2400 block of North Church Street (US-70) while he was traveling East on the same roadway. The pedestrians were identified as Curtis Lee Ridgeway, a 53-year-old male of Burlington, NC, and Kristie Williams Huffines, a 55-year-old female also of Burlington, NC.
Ridgeway was pronounced dead at the scene by medical responders. Huffines was transported to a nearby trauma center, where she remains in critical but stable condition.
Robertson was charged by Criminal Summons and has a court date of August 10, 2026, in Alamance County District Court.

Burlington Police Investigate DWI/Assault on LEO
Burlington, NC | On June 25, 2026, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Burlington Police officers responded to the 1100 block of East Webb Avenue in reference to suspicious activity.
Upon arrival, responding officers located Vanessa Tekesha Benjamin, a 39-year-old female, sitting in a vehicle parked on the sidewalk facing the opposite direction of traffic. While speaking with Benjamin, officers identified signs that she was impaired. They ordered her out of her vehicle, but Benjamin refused to comply with the officer's commands.
After repeated attempts to negotiate with Benjamin, officers blocked in her car to prevent her from driving into incoming traffic and causing a crash. Subsequently, officers were forced to break out a window to arrest Benjamin. While officers were removing Benjamin from the car, she assaulted and spat on the officers. Benjamin was taken into custody and was charged with:
• Felony Malicious Conduct by Prisoner
• Assault on a Government Official
• Driving While Impaired
• Resist, Delay, and Obstruct
Benjamin was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center, where she is still being processed. Bond information is not available at this time.

Burlington Police Investigate Strangulation and Kidnapping
Burlington, NC | On June 25, 2026, at approximately 2:44 a.m., Burlington Police officers responded to the 600 block of East Webb Avenue in reference to a domestic assault.
Upon arrival, responding officers located an adult female who reported that she had just been assaulted by Lashaun Warren Crump, a 44-year-old male who fled the scene with the victim’s personal property before the officers' arrival.
Officers continued their investigation, and warrants were obtained for his arrest. At approximately 9:30 a.m., officers located Crump’s vehicle in the 2700 block of Alamance Road and conducted a traffic stop. Crump was arrested and charged with:
• Felony Assault by Strangulation
• First-degree Kidnapping
• Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence
• Assault on a Female
• Misdemeanor Larceny
Crump received no bond due to the domestic nature of the charges. There is no ongoing threat to the public.

For Immediate Release: Felony Arrest
Burlington, NC | On June 14, 2026, during the evening hours, the Burlington Police Department responded to a reported breaking and entering in progress in the 700 block of Kilby Street. Information received indicated that a suspect was actively attempting to force entry into a residence.
As officers arrived at the scene, they noted multiple criminal offenses had occurred and that the suspect fled before their arrival. Through the investigation, officers identified the suspect as Warren Gumbs, a 39-year-old male of Burlington. Felony Warrants were obtained charging Gumbs with Attempted First-Degree Burglary and Misdemeanor Communicating Threats. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
On June 15, 2026, the Greensboro Police Department located and arrested Gumbs on the outstanding warrants. In accordance with the requirements of North Carolina's Pretrial Integrity Act, Gumbs was held without bond pending his initial court appearance.
The investigation remains ongoing.

Burlington Man Facing Multiple Charges Including Felony Following Midnight Pursuit
On Friday, June 12, 2026, at approximately 12:55am, Deputies observed a motorcycle traveling at an excessive rate of speed. Using radar, the motorcycle was traveling 64 miles per hour in a posted 35 miles per hour zone. The speeding violation occurred on Rauhut St. in Burlington, NC.
Deputies activated emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop near the intersection of Rauhut Street and Sharpe Road. The motorcycle slowed as if it was going to stop but then accelerated and fled again on Sharpe Rd.
Deputies observed the motorcycle failing to stop at a stop sign on Sharpe Road at Lakeside Ave., crashing into a fence in the 1500 block Sharpe Road. The suspect fled a short distance on foot until being apprehended by Deputies.
The suspect was identified as Wilbert Lee Richmond, Jr., of Burlington, NC. Mr. Richmond, Jr., was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment of wounds suffered after colliding with the fence.
Mr. Richmond, Jr., was treated and released from the hospital and transported to the Alamance County Sheriff's Office Detention Center where remains.

Suspect Arrested After Crime Spree
Burlington, NC | On June 10, 2026, at approximately 5:10 p.m., the Burlington Police Department responded to a series of incidents involving a motorvehicle crash, motor vehicle theft, and the activation of a fire alarm at the Burlington Police Department. Following an investigation, responding officers determined that Jorge De Jesus Yepez Espinola, a 39-year-old male, was involved in a possible motor vehicle crash and subsequently fled the scene. Espinola then stole a nearby work van and drove it to the rear parking lot of the Burlington Police Department before entering the building and intentionally activating the fire alarm in the front lobby.
Shortly after the incident, officers located and arrested Espinola in a nearby business. He was charged with Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Injury to Real Property, and Giving False Fire Alarms. He was issued a court date of June 11, 2026, in the Alamance CountyDistrict Court and was placed under a $5,000 secured bond.
Investigators also determined that the vehicle operated by Espinola before the theft of the work van, sustained damage to the driver's side and a tire. Officers have been unable to determine where the crash occurred or what object or property was struck. The vehicle was found in the area of 640 North Church Street, Burlington.
The Burlington Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed a motor vehicle collision involving a gray Honda Accord or who has information regarding damage to property in the area of 640 North Church Street on June 10, 2026, to contact the Burlington Police Department.

Burlington, NC | On June 4, 2026, at approximately 2:37 p.m., Burlington Police officers responded to the 1700 block of South Mebane Street in reference to reports of a shooting. Responding officers located two men who had been shot at while they were in their vehicle, following an argument with another driver (suspect).
As a result of the investigation, officers identified Jeffrey Javon Veale, a 36-year-old male, as the offender and obtained warrants for his arrest for Felony Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Vehicle and Misdemeanor Going Armed to the Terror of the Public.
On June 6, Veale was arrested in Greensboro by the Greensboro Police Department and was given no bond for his charges. At this time, there are no other victims or property damage reported, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Fraud Investigation – Arrest Made
Burlington, NC |On June 3, 2026, at approximately 5:08 p.m., officers responded to Friendly Check Cashing, located inside the Speedway gas station at 653 East Webb Avenue, regarding a report of fraudulent activity.
During the investigation, officers determined that Daniel Howard, a 46-year-old male, attempted to cash a check using another individual's identity. Officers located and detained Howard, and further investigation resulted in his arrest on multiple criminal charges.
Howard was charged with:
• Uttering a Forged Instrument
• Identity Theft
• Two (2) Counts of Felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Howard was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center, where he was held without bond pursuant to the provisions of the Pretrial Integrity Act. This investigation remains ongoing. No additional information is available for release at this time.

UPDATE: Media Release: Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon Investigation
Burlington, NC | On May 25, 2026, the Burlington Police Department conducted a traffic stop of
the suspect vehicle and recovered evidence from the robbery. As a result of the continued investigation, detectives also executed a search warrant at 1407 Durham Street, where additional evidence related to the case was seized.
Richard Lamar Hart, Jr, a 39-year-old male, was arrested and charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Driving While License Revoked.
Hart was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond.

Burlington, NC | On May 23, 2026, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers from the
Burlington Police Department responded to Family Fare, located at 2227 Maple Avenue, in
reference to a reported robbery. Upon arrival, officers spoke with an employee who reported that a suspect entered the business, produced a firearm, and demanded money from the register. No injuries were reported.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’09” tall, medium build, believed to be in his late 20s to early 30s, wearing a black hoodie, black jeans, black shoes, and a black ski mask. The suspect fled the scene on foot in the direction of Chapel Hill Road with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
There is no additional information available at this time.
